With music recording gear getting cheaper every year, it’s a growing trend, that many upcoming solo artists record their tracks at home. Home-studios are a great thing. While home-studios rarely live up to the quality of professionally recorded music, it can sometimes get pretty close.

Many artists have learned the basic recording techniques by themselves. There are still some aspects of making music in a home studio that’s very difficult. I’ll name 2 things for you right here: Mix & Master. Mixing is the process where all tracks in a project are balanced in level & pan. You also make tonal adjustments to the sound using Equalizers and make dynamic adjustments using Compressors, Gates, Expanders, etc. Mastering is the final treatment of the sound before releasing the music.
